If 'they' won't give a review copy to drobe for having a fortnight off, who were they intending to give it to? I can't think of any other RISC OS news outlet thats more up to date. |

It's not more up to date than Drobe, though. One of the main reasons that I let my subscription to Archive lapse was that the "News" columns were never news to me.
(The other being that the feature articles had a tendency to be things I happened not to be interested in.) |

Still nowt but the tumbleweed drobe side. Wasn't there a story someone sent their way? Allegedly, however a story being sent doesn't mean it can go straight up on the site. Stuff I've done for Drobe has often required a fair bit of editing by Chris to make it reasonable.
I find it amusing that because of one unpaid person taking a break, it now appears to everyone outside the RISC OS world that RISC OS is dead, shouldn't take too long for those inside it too to realise too.

God, you really can be uncharitable! Remember a while ago you were surprised when you people said you came across as abrasive at times? It's because of stuff like this.
Professional writers often get their stuff changed for publication, in whatever medium. It's hardly surprising that it'd happen on Drobe as well, with a (presumably) non-professional writer. The same happens with me and contributors for noisetosignal.org all the time - things take time to knock into shape. |

You know, I have a degree in journalism and I've worked in that field in the past (including for the Scotsman, Scotland's equivalent of the Times, and some local rags), I've been a teacher of English as a foreign language for almost four years and now for the past three years I've been a professional language editor, subbing and proofing for a translation company. I've been at both ends of the editing process. I say this not to boast, but because I feel it's relevant to communicate my understanding of the topic at hand, and to ensure that you're aware that although I may not run a user-generated-content website, still I actually do know something about the field.
Yes, I'm aware that writers - professional or otherwise - don't always put things right the first time, and things take many redrafts, as well as consistency and fact checking. However - and this appears to have escaped your notice, perhaps because I failed to include a smiley face in my post - my comment was something called a "joke". That's one of those humourous things people often make in response to any given situation. I'm sorry it failed to pass your quality assurance process. Perhaps you should be more flexible in your outlook rather than jumping to see the most negative possible interpretation of a comment - particularly on a BBS. Surely you should know better by now.

Drobe's major articles were largely syndicated on osnews.com (a good general comp news site for alternate OSes).
Other than that only Castle breaking the GPL would be likely to make the outside news sites. [1]
