I am not a very active RiscOs user, but I do collect vintage RiscOs machines.
From time to time I check Vigay.com web site, that, ofcourse, cannot be update anymore.
I just would like to know if somebody paid for the web space or something, just to make sure its contents won't just fade away. The riscos community could just save it as it is still a great resource for all users.
Thank you Luca |

I believe that Paul's sites are now being hosted by the ISP he started, which has continued in a friend's hands.
Also: What makes you think "RiscOs" is even approaching right? > |

The thing is, you see, that it's not RiscOS, RiscOs, Riscos, Risc OS, RISCOS, RISC/OS, Risc/OS, Risc/Os or any of these others; it's quite simply two abbreviations coupled together (Reduced Instruction Set Computer Operating System) as "RISC OS". Amazingly, it's something that nobody seems to be able to get right - and when you fail to do so, you will raise their ire each and every time, guaranteed. |

This is a long-standing issue in the RO community, which appears to be largely composed of grammar trolls and spelling nazis. That's a bit unfair!
Personally, since this has been brought up, (this isn't a dig at Luca or anyone in particular) the reason why it grates with me is because 'RISC OS' is clearly displayed every time a RISC OS machine starts up! There's no reason why anyone who actually uses RISC OS would not know its correct form, so in my opinion getting it wrong looks rather disrespectfully sloppy in a public forum. |

Sorry, my post was sloppy in itself! I think it came across as being rather cranky, which wasn't my intention.
I don't use RISC OS any more myself - really my point was that I don't understand why someone would go to the effort of posting a message on a forum (or usenet or whatever) but then not bother to use 'RISC OS' correctly. It's a really simple thing that doesn't take any extra effort to get right, so why not just get it right? I find it hard to believe that anyone involved with the platform genuinely doesn't know the correct form of 'RISC OS'. That's what I think looks disrespectfully sloppy! |

Most of those above refer to the operating system for the MIPS processor. (Also a RISC) At the risk of being pedantic, there is a small justification for Risc OS, that being the name of one of the pieces of hardware it runs on. That is the Risc PC600 (where the gap between the c & the P is a half-space (difficult to show)).

Most of those above refer to the operating system for the MIPS processor. (Also a RISC) Actually, the name of the MIPS-based UNIX that ran on a handful of workstation models isn't listed. It was RISC/os. |

And I don'T cArE about tHoSE ComPLAinING abOUt I'm not such a troll about it, I was just explaining the earlier comment - but please don't do that, it just makes text so hard to read, which damages comprehensibility. The primary goal here is to communicate, not to infuriate. |
