After copying my original to the HD as per the instructions, it reports the following error when you run it:

SORRY BUT I CANNOT INITIATE AS FILES APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN ALTERED

Anyone else seen this?

Never seen that myself. I thought the RiscPC version didn't have any copy protection?

Just tried it on another RISC PC and get the following error:

SORRY BUT THIS MACHINE IS UNSUITABLE FOR RUNNING THIS PROGRAM!

There's no software protection, just sloppy coding in the loader.

Whoever wrote "INTRO" needs shooting! On yet another machine:

SORRY BUT THIS PROGRAM WILL ONLY RUN FROM HARD DISC!

Commenting the line "Run <Obey$Dir>.ChkDisc" in !Run gets around this, but it then crashes on this SA machine as its full of self modifying code.

Looks like I'll have to hack INTRO to get it working.

Ah, in that case it must have just been the StrongARM version that removed all the sloppy code/copy protection. My StrongARM copy doesn't seem to contain a copy of ChkDisc.

There's a StrongARM version? Is that official?

I've stripped the self modifying code out and it now loads and does have protection, it checks disc 1.

I'm guessing it's after the original SR2000 floppy, as it doesn't like the floppy it came on.

EDIT: Switched to an ARM710 and it now works!

Most popular games had some sort of RO4/SA compatibility patch released. There was a collection of those on one of the AUCDs. That might be what Phlamethrower is meaning.

No, I'm fairly certain it's an official copy.

I meant that any existing SA/RO4 compatibility patch might have been made by the authors of the game, and so could have been bundled/integrated with later "SA-compatible" copies of the retail version.

That said, there has always been an active community of home hackers making updates and patches for these things, so without checking the game and the patch, I am only guessing here.

I'll add it to the list of "missing games" then.

If you can send me an ADF of it and a scan of the floppy itself - even better.

The floppies would have been chucked out long ago, I'm afraid. I can send you a zip of the installed game if you want.

Need images of original floppies I'm afraid - to ensure they've not been modified.

Yes there is definitely an official StrongARM compatible version of Stunt Racer, I got it from 4th Dimension years ago, when they were still part of CJE Micros, was about £5 upgrade.

Whether upgrades are still available I don't know but the StrongARM version is available from APDL www.apdl.co.uk on the racing games collection CD.
