Guys
Just going through a clear out of my loft and came across a MINT condition A3020 - never been used so in great condition - no yellowing etc. Still got all original manuals which are in pristine condition.
Will put it up on ebay soon but wanted to give this forum an opportunity to make me an offer before I list.
If you are interested fire me an email at jrbeamer@gmail.com and we can talk ...

Have they been checked for battery leakage and subsequent motherboard damage?

The mint in bag has never been opened so no - and neither do I intend to open it as that will devalue it quite a bit I think.
The other one I plugged in and it works. Haven't specifically checked for battery damage but happy to if that is important.

Here are some photos on flickr: Photos
The first two are the unboxed, unbagged A3020 -- in mint condition as you can see. Also has manuals in pristine condition.
The next three are box + bagged A3020. You can see the box is in A1 condition given it is getting on 18 years old (some v. minor tears in the top but as I said very minor). This has mouse + manuals (again pristine) and RISC OS discs.
I will keep one, but happy to take an offer on one for those willing.
Will be on ebay on Saturday if no interest.
Thanks John

You might want to mention them over on the StarDot forums too:

Does it have any of the other bits of cardboard that make up the packaging? This box seems incomplete. Does it have the traditional Acorn green plastic handle that allows the packaging to be used as a carry case?
Someone more familiar with these things may be able to correct me, but didn't A30X0 machines all come with a second 'bundle box'?
My mint A3010 came with the 'Action Pack', and I know there were other such packs. The main computer box as shown in these photos goes into a larger brown cardboard box which has space to also take the software bundle. The outer cardboard boxes have a hole cut out to allow the model number (printed on the side of the computer box) to be seen. |

I have an A3010 and in didn't come in/with a bundle. Pretty sure these didn't either as I've had them for years.
Good point on the green handle. Not sure where that is - can try to hunt around for it as probably in the loft somewhere.
Either way, will go on ebay on Saturday - let me know if you are interested.
Bryan - thanks for the tip on stardot |

Probably one of the dealers on here will know whether A30X0 machines were ever sold new without bundle packs. Another way to check is to look at one of the product catalogues that Acorn put out in the mid/early 1990s.
CJE posts on here sometimes. Chris, any ideas? |

The A3000 had the optional 'Learning Curve' pack but I can't recall any pack for the A3010 or A3020 but my memory could be wrong. Mine is the 'Action Pack' (Zool, Chuck Rock demo, Lemmings demo) - there was at least two other bundle pack types - Family Pack (possibly 'Family solution') and some sort of educational one - maybe an updated 'Learning Curve'.
Another near-mint A3010 was on ebay last year with a Family Pack (?) bundle. I think it went for about 200 quid, although I recall something was missing - possibly the mouse. Packaging was all intact though, and the computer itself was unused.
I thought the 10/20 A30X0 machines were all sold with bundles. Perhaps they weren't.
If anyone has the dealer listing/product code documents, the main computer box should match up the the bundle it originally came with. Each bundle has an Acorn product code associated with it, in the familiar format used for other Acorn products.
There might be a PDF copy on "Chris's Acorns". Also the Acorn Education CD given away on Acorn User magazine covers might have details. |

Info on the other bundles available for the A3010:
http://acorn.chriswhy.co.uk/docs/Acorn/PR/Acorns_Christmas_bonanza.txt
The A3010 machine I saw for sale last year had the 'Early Years' pack, which includes 'Flossy the Frog'.
This other press release from the time of the A3010/A3020 launch might suggest that only the 10 came with bundles, while the 20 did not.

Although they were very similar the two machines were aimed at very different market. The A3020 was intended for education, not home use, hence the BBC style red keys to mark it as a direct descendant of the A3000 and BBC computers. Also it was easy to fit a network card (starting to become common in schools) and hard drive, but no joystick or TV modulator.
The A3010 was aimed squarely at the 'home games' market. Hence TV modulator and joystick but no IDE interface because low end home/games computers didn't usually have hard drives at that time.
The various promotion packs followed from this. For education these were not needed, schools either already had their software or needed site licences anyway, so nothing with the A3020. However the various bundles with the A3010 were designed to make the Acorn offering seem more attractive to parents by suggesting that this was the computer to buy for their kids as not only could they play games but it was also 'educational'. |

After saying I didn't think they did one, Andrew pointed out a poster for the various bundles stuck up in the stockroom!
And I thought I had a good memory for such things:-/ |

The A3010 Family Solution, came with Quest for Gold and Easiwriter (think this is the pack my parents got).

There was also a A3010 that came with Lotus 2 after the price drop from 499 to 399. |
