Oregano 3 shown in London [updated]

Posted by Phil Mellor on 08:13, 19/7/2005 | , , ,

Last night Richard Brown of GeneSys visited ROUGOL over in London village to demonstrate the latest RISC OS web browser.

Oregano 3 rendered several websites that O2 found taxing, including bbc.co.uk, channel4.com, netscape.com, and royalmail.com.

Our roving reporter noted that it has decent javascript (as evidenced by successful playing of battleships at javascript.internet.com) although the css wasn't perfect. However, it made a very respectable effort with www.csszengarden.com. Flash 5 was built in and worked.

Richard Brown re-iterated his comments at previous shows that he would put money on a release before the year is out.

Thanks for reporting this. Do you have larger versions of the photos so that we can see the brower's output more clearly?

May be worth noting that Battle Ships is a very simple Javascript app that almost works in Oregano 1, and should work fine in O2.

Also worth noting that Battleships was pulled at random from the list at javascript.internet.com after the site was suggested by a visitor. Slightly more scary is http://www.narain.com/gecko/ working.

Not yet, many of the really complex sites such as that get fixed by fixing simpler ones on the way :)
