Round-up of recent news

After spending time on a number of other projects for the past few days our news reporting rate has slipped a little, so here's a bumper bundle of quickies for your delectation:

Unregistered user I fear in fact that you have just copied these news articles from drobe...

Unregistered user I can 100% assure you that the CodersCauldron part was not copied from Drobe.

Unregistered user Given that Coders Cauldron was suggested on Acorn Arcade, organised on Acorn Arcade and uses the technology behind Acorn Arcade and The Iconbar could it possibly be that the people behind it simply weren't ready to announce it and Drobes news story was a) premature thus forcing a response on here and b) not (as far as I'm aware) from any of the people behind the Coders Cauldron initiative?

Of course not because that sounds like a conspiracy theory ;)

Unregistered user I'm sorry if reporting on CC was a litle premature, you mentioned a need for other members.
Good luck, btw, it's nice idea.

Chris (of Drobe News)

Unregistered user Half that news isn't on Drobe even now, so how could I have copied it?

Yes, they have reported on the other half, but check the details and links - not the same. Do I now have to only report news that doesn't appear elsewhere?

Unregistered user Re: Copying news and cross-reporting
Not at all Richard. I would prefer to see two different news sites with two different, (or sometimes agreeing), opinions.
Anyway, the IB and drobe are two very different sites, with two different aims. Plus, with RISC OS developers keeping release information 'tight', multiple reporting will hopefully show alternative viewpoints.

Unregistered user Hi Chris,

sorry, I wasn't responding to you, I was responding to the original post. Of course both sites are different but will have to carry the same news stories. I'm just nonplussed as to why someone would accuse me of out-and-out copying - do they not read comp.sys.acorn.announce? Strange that it seems to be posted under an assumed "comedy" name.

The way I gather news is usually via press releases, or the rather shaky news to web converter at http://www.iconbar.com/usenet/ - all the stories I just posted are on there, apart from the coding compos which were press releases.

Rich.

Unregistered user I think it boils down to the fact that most developers prefer to post to usenet rather than news websites. I'm not terribly upset by this, although I wish it could be different.
Most developers are happy to provide information and further details for articles once you get in touch with them. Other developers play it cool and keep quiet while a minority of developers' reactions border on abusive :(
In short, it's up to developers to market and distribute their products and I'm not about to dictate to them how they should do their jobs.

Unregistered user Besides, with the RISC OS market being as small as it is, there is no scope for exclusive news stories anyway.

Unregistered user A focused news feed from developers ensures reliable reporting though.
