hello all,

I am a total newbie to the Acorn world. I had a chance to purchase a A3020 and i am slowly trying to learn everything about this great machine.

My first question is around purchasing games. eBay is usually a good source but as far as I ca tell there is close to none available Archimedes software there. Any sites you can point me to?

In the meantime, I am trying to get the adf images copied to a disk so I can run them in my A3020 just for demo purposes. Here is what I did:
- Install Omniflop: Followed the instructions, added the drive, and the software seems to work fine.
- I format 2DD floppies using the 800Kb format and it works fine. However, if I try to write any ADF into it I get a message saying that "the image file is larger than the disk". The process goes through anyway but when I pop the disk in my A3020 I get a "Broken directory" error message.
- I tried then to format 2HD floppies using the 1600Kb format and that works as well. However, when I try to burn the adf image to it I get the opposite error "disk is larger than image". When I pop those in my A3020 I get an error saying 'disk format not recognized' or something like that.

Any tips of what I am doing wrong here? Thanks a lot

Paul

I know nothing about OmniFlop, but in this forum post here: http://www.stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=15612&sid=51052b6df4e6590904f02ede968e014a#p15612

A user of OmniFlop says:
Aha - I've cracked it big grin

The problem is that most image files available on the web are filetyped ".adf" whereas Omniflop needs .adl files for E format discs.

If you ask Omniflop to write an .adf file it assumes that the disc is single sided and tries to cram all 800k into a 400k space.

You have to rename .adf to .adl before writing.

If this was obvious then I apologise - I must be stupid!

Thanks for all the help.

john

Just a thought. You aren't by any chance trying to use a HD disc formatted to 800K?

Acorn allow the FDC to override the density select switch on the drive so you can force format a HD 1.44MB floppy disc to 800K. However when you put this in a PC it will assume its HD and write to it in the wrong mode.

If you want to use 800K disc images you either need true DD discs or tape over the hole on a HD disc.

Are you saying that Jason Tribbeck and I have a site? Or is there yet another Jason that I don't know about?
