Hi there
I was a harcore Acorn Arch user for a long time.
It was the best thing I ever had.......I did my best work on my Archie.......and a happy Beeb User for many years.
Back then I used to own Euclid, Mogul, Illusionist, Render Bender.....wow that really takes me back.
I got myself a RPi and put Risc OS on it and thought I'd fire up some old packages.
I threw away all my disks and manuals years ago. Is there any place I can download Euclid and Illusionist again? It's a shame that software for the Arc isn't preserved like on all the other platforms. Wish I'd kept all my discs now.....anyway it's just for fun and old times sake so if it's not to be then so be it. |

Not wishing to be a party pooper, but I very much doubt any of those apps will run on Pi, as they were never maintained beyond (maybe) RISC OS 3.1. They were all, I think, RISC OS 2 or earlier programs.
Since they won't have been maintained, "32bit" versions (or even StrongARM editions) are highly unlikely to exist.
The only way to run them would be under emulation of legacy RISC OS 2/3 era systems, but I suspect Pi would be rather slow for that 
It is possible Aemulor may help (perhaps Euclid?) but I haven't seen those apps for 20 years, I'd wager (most were produced in the 1980s) |

Thanks Andrew. What a shame. I had them working on RISC OS 3 on my A310.
I got some cracking images out of them.......limitations are a good thing sometimes....to think we were rendering back then. Illusionist as well was a very interesting bit of software.
I am keeping my eye out on Ebay for them but I am not holding my breath. Shame as I remember they were so impressive at Acorn Shows I went to......before their time.
If anyone else knows any more please chime in. I really miss playing with those bits of software....what good times.... |

We gave away updated versions of Render Bender and Illusionist with RISC World volume 9. However, like 90% of old software I don't think it works on the Iyonix, much less something like the RPi.
I was intending to make them both freely available from the APDL web site but the last time I suggested this the responce was so underwhelming I never bothered. |

I have Euclid running on a StrongARM RiscPC with Adjust!
I have also had it running under ArcEm on my Beagleboard and Pi
Sadly before I got to run Euclid under Aemulor on my BB, it died! :@( |

I will have about 3 months of free time (from late Feb to late April) for Acorn preservation-related activities, and I have many of the Oak Software 3D packages (including Euclid) on floppy, as well as at least 1 manual... |

Wow that's great news to hear. Fantastic! I shall await with baited breath.
I will also have to track Illusionist down. What a shame no one was interested in making it free as a download. What a crime!
I did an Art Degree 20 years ago and all my work was done on these two packages.
Euclid was really easy.....I remember the great bird animations they had on their stand at Acorn World......
Illusionist was cool....amazing speed at the time for rendered images.....
Thanks for your replies everyone.....I'll have to fire up ArcEm and try and get them going and get cracking on doing some more stuff.
I Also remember AMX SuperArt on the beeb very fondly.....and Artisan on the Archie.
Thanks for chiming in everyone.....it will be good to go back and revisit it all. |

+1 for running older (none compatible) applications on the Pi using ArcEm. I have been very impressed indeed that ArcEm seems to run at "full speed" (about as fast as my old A3010) and really is a great solution for backwards compatibility. |

It would be great to be in a place where we could run our old apps again on the Raspberry Pi if that were possible....
I might buy a Beagleboard as well to see what it's like.....from what I am reading here....
I'm getting all fired up now about my Archie again!

If you will send me your email address, I will send you the latest version of the best VRML viewer. I'm not sure whether it is 32 bit compatible, but it should work under emulation.

I don't suppose you might be able to help me out with this one would you please? I am dying to load it up again. I will get a Beagleboard if it won't run on my Pi.....anyway no probs if not....thought I'ld have another bash at trying to find Euclid.

Euclid was an Ace/Oak Solutions product.
Oak Solutions was merged into/became Dial Solutions.
They haven't sold it for ten years.
They have given me a contact number for the author.
I'll give him a ring this evening then let everybody know the outcome. |

We'll need to do the same with the author, if both agree JASPP can freely distribute it, we're half way there.
We will of course need images of the floppies (ADF will do if there's no protection), floppy scans (300dpi), manual scans (600dpi), box scans (300dpi) etc. |

He will probably be quite chuffed to find that there's somebody else interested in 3D modelling on RISC OS.
