And I *really* think a competition is in order...
Good idea! Don't make the deadline too short though, if you do one. :)

I was thinking a couple of months, perhaps. Hopefully :flamethrower: will turn up and we'll see what he thinks :o

And maybe APDL might see fit to give away a prize ;)

Don't make it too long, because people will just put it off and forget about it. :|

Good point.

I'll mess around with Surgeon tonight, and see how easy it is to use ;)

It's great :) But I lost my copy :(

I'd have to make it worth APDL's while, of course. Hmmmm. Of course, it wouldn't have to be APDL; anyone got any other ideas?

Rcomp? Artex? A dealer like CJE might be able to give stuff away. Or there's always Castle! :)

A free copy of TEK, perhaps :o

The problem is, the kind of people who might want to enter this competition might already have whatever gaming product we could offer them. It could be the winner's choice, I suppose...

Maybe Andy Southgate will enter some levels ;)

Right, I'll start working on it as soon as the Surgeon page is up (hopefully tomorrow morning - I've saved it on two discs, this time...)

It would also be a nice bit of publicity for the site. I want to add my updates before it's launched though (basically, finishing off what's on the Updates page, and a few other ideas I have) - and the site design could do with tweaking (the conformance logos don't need to be at the bottom of *every* page...)

I'll come up with something in a couple of weeks and email you :)

I really must get it at some point, but I'm not in an RTS mood at the moment :o

Hey - perhaps a copy of Abuse could be up for grabs? Abuse is cool 8)

Problem with RComp is that I don't think many people buy many games any more; they wouldn't have much to benefit from it :|

Come to think of it :flamethrower: - I've been thinking of this for a while; the tone of the writing is slightly uneven, as it flicks between first person and third person at times. When I do the major update I want to sort this out. Any ideas? I was thinking of standardising everything so it's "our" stuff; but I'm not sure...

Standardising it so it's "our" stuff sounds like a good idea.

At the moment the site seems a bit formal - you keep refering to me by my full name, which suggests that you hardly know me and all I do is turn up every so often with some new programs.

Right, will do.

Exactly; and I really don't like the feel of that. I was aware of it when I was writing it, but it just needed getting up; part of the delay in the first place was because I just couldn't find the right tone. I kinda over-compensated in giving credit where credit is due, I think.

I'll go though it all and sort it out this weekend, hopefully.

And for those who don't know what it is, it's a WIMP level editor. That's all I'm telling you, since I'm meant to be revising instead of staying up all night going through the TIB backlog :o

Neither is Asylum at the moment :o

I doubt there's much rush at the moment though (as Aemulor works so well) - but he can always recompile them in the uni holidays...

Which reminds me - I must submit Asylum and Oddball for Aemulor testing.

Take a look at http://www.tamias.co.uk/

This is something I've been thinking about - should I redesign it *without* the vertical navbar, and keep all the links on the front page, split into sections, like that?

Each page (apart from the front page) would have a horizontal navbar, like this:

Home > Asylum > Download

Thoughts?

I'll have a play. I'll do a mock of a couple of pages so you can see how it'll work. The advantage of that kind of front page is that you can easily add things such as the most recent updates, etc; a far more coherent and interesting front page.

I won't change it if you hate it ;)

I like it the way is is. :) It is very easy to navigate at the moment because all the links to possible destinations are on all the pages. If I am understanding your idea, the user would have to go back to the front page to jump another section of the site, making the page less easy to navigate.

Yeah, I take your point. It does make it easier. With my ofla.info page, I *will* be making it so you have to jump to the front page for various things; but seeing as it'll have a wide range of things on the site that not everyone will want to see, it makes sense. Wheras everyone will want to see most of the Asylum site.

I *do* want to change the front page to make it more interesting, though.

Fell asleep last night :|

However, I'm starting work on the Surgeon page now, so it'll have a quick description of what it does, and a link to an HTML version of the StrongHelp docs, in a couple of hours. (I'll expand it later; just as I did with the nobrainer page).

I'm going to get a revised version of the site up for Monday; seeing as everyone seems to like the site design, I'll leave that alone (for now), but I'll try to improve the style of writing by about 100000000%, and make it consistant. Any suggestions (design-wise, writing wise, etc) put them here now :)

Added, but there's not much. The editors I have here won't read the StrongHelp file properly ( :( ), so I'll do an HTML version of that tonight, and add it tomorrow. I'll also add a screenshot of Surgeon in action :)
