"The Downing Street switchboard was at meltdown point last week after
thousands of callers were duped into phoning the Prime Minister's
number.According to reports, a hoaxer sent an SMS to thousands of mobile phone
users with the urgent message: "Hi, mate, phone me ASAP, crap signal in
this pub. If I don't answer; ask for Tony who runs the place." The number given went straight through to the Number 10 switchboard, and
a spokeswoman said that 80% of the calls coming in were a result of the
prank. As a result Downing Street was forced to have another private line
installed." |

It wouldn't work so well, no-one would believe it. Incidentally, the one I recieved said: "Hi mate, I need your help, in a spot of bother, no signal. Call me on 0207 930 4832. If I don't answer, ask Elizabeth or Phil for me" Sigh. Who thinks these things up...? |

There was a similar one for buckingham palace (but ask for liz or phil etc)... Most ridiculous... Call 0207 930 4832 for the answer machine at the palace telling us all politely to f ck off. |

this one could actually be slightly modified and become a great RISC OS april fools' joke. Just state he phone nr of P.M.  "Call now, RISC OS Select i386 version, for free!" |
