Hi,

I'm looking for somebody who could update some existing tracks I have in a game I'm currently working on with perhaps more modern software than trackers.
I've posted also to comp.sys.acorn.games about this.

Regards,

Andrew

I mean software capable of using higher quality samples and adding fades, crescendos/diminuendos and perhaps other effects.

I don't know a lot about the capabilites of MIDI software on the Acorn or PC platform but I'm sure they are moe capable than some of the older tracker applications that I have can access to. Perhaps modern PC tracker applications would be suitable as well.
Any format would be fine. MP3s tend to be very large for long tracks so perhaps tracker would be more suitable here. It would presumably be converted to waveform for CD burning regardless.

problem with Midi is that 90% of RiscPCs do not have a MIDI card in them unhappy
& unless you have a good SoundCard (Creative SBLive! is pretty good) then Midi just sounds a bit pants really unhappy
we could investigate more modern PC Tracker formats, or we could compile around 10 MP3s for the game, then I could burn them onto CD, allowing us to push forward with the game.

I have a few ideas for some songs, & i've just got to get round to writing them grin

Amiga Protracker allows fades, crescendos etc. doesn't it?

Alex.

Sure Mark, whatever you can do. The PC seems to be well supported in this area. I was also thinking about updating some of my own but perhaps that can wait.
Let me know how much you'll can let let me have a copy of the CD for (inc. P&P) then I can try to tie it into the game. Send a few samples of each beforehand.

Regards,

Andrew

Right then, i shall compose a few more songs & stick them into MP3 (Im currently downloading as many SoundFonts as I can - which should make it sound all nice smile ). If you want to send me the Tracker songs you have made, then I could try & do something with them, although the musical notation for it would be most useful.
If anyone else here wants their music to be included in this game (we're looking for atmospheric, film style music) then please reply smile

Yes please Mark. As I said, both myself and Nathan (who has definite ideas about game music format :-)) feel your previous musical work was very good indeed although quite short.
I'll send you some trackers. I think there is a tracker to Maestro program so I'll tryto convert them if you like, probaby at the weekend if you say so.

Thanks for the advert as well :-)
Yes, of course the offer's still open but I'm not sure if I'm advertising in the right place..

argh! unhappy
'me lost all my soundfonts unhappy
ahh well, this Tele2 link shouldnt take too long to get some more smile
The tracker -> Maestro program sounds good, but from the Maestro format could you get that into MIDI please, I think sibelius or Rhapsody shoudl be able to do something like that, but I dont have either of these, & i dont know of any PC programs that will do this.
thanks

Mark

Okay Mark I'll have a go this weekend at converting them to maestro to MIDI. I have Rhapsody 2 or 3 but i think there may be a PD program.

regards,

Andrew

I've converted a couple to Rhapsody format but unfortunately I don't have my copy of Rhapsody with me at the moment so I'll let you know when I can get them converted.
I'm assuming you can listen to them though if that is of any use :-)

I havent found a *working* tracker programs for the PC, (although WinAMPs been the best so far) but I've heard the trackers in the game.
Ill keep looking for a PD Program that converts Trackers/Maestro/Rhapsody format to MIDI, although I havent had any luck so far unhappy

I've just found out that Rhapsody 2 is not stable onmy machine so I guess that rules that out. I don't know of PD utility apart from Tracker to Rhapsody which appears to work.
I don't know if there is an easy answer to this apart from investing in better sound software myself which seems a shame as you seem to be well kitted out.

errmmm u could try using Rhapsody with the *cache off command, perhaps that will make it a little more StrongARM happy, or is it RO4 thats the prob??
What d'you mean by "non stable" though?
If we need to use an older machine, we have an A4000 lying around.

It was freezing the machine. I think it required resources that I didn't want to add to the system directory from those provided. After loading the RO4 version of ESP Midi synthesiser the program worked before any MIDI conversions were made.
So the process is :
Tracker (cb6) to Soundtracker to Rhapsody to MIDI.
You will then have to listen to the original tracke file so as to hear some of the backing tracks and effects that have been lost in the conversion.
Hope this is okay

Regards,

Andrew
