RISC OS, too cool for Javascript.

I've been attempting to use an Iomega Zip drive on a RiscPC, having never used a Zip drive on RISC OS before I'm at a bit of a loss.

Do I require Zip reading software or do I need drivers for the drive, or both?

The easiest is to use a parallel port version with the Partis software (available from CJE Micros).

I think that is useful advice for somebody looking to get a Zip drive, but not terribly practical for somebody who already owns a particular model. Is the Partis software cross-compatible for all Zip drive types, or is it specific to some brand/type?

The driver we sell will work on a RiscPC with all models of parallel port ZIP drives! SO good advice. If the drive is SCSI or USB then then it sounds like he has an appropriate interface for the RiscPC.

Do the parallel port drive work on older kit such as an A3010? Have tried both flavours of driver (assuming one is Partis, the other is the company beginning with A who's name escapes me) but fails to find the device unhappy

Would be great to get it working as found one of those Bush Internet TV boxes for a quid or two at a car boot & know you can try out some interesting stuff with Risc OS with them smile

Hello.
Yes it does work on the A3010/A3020/A4000.
It should also work on the A4, the A5000 and the A540.
For these machines I've got two different apps : one for ZIP100 drives and the other one for ZIP250s, both by Partis.

The A is for Argo! The Bush Internet TV had the Argo Zip driver built in, the big problem though is the built in version only worked with very early 100MB PP Zip drives. We have a number of 100MB PP Zip drives drives in stock but don't know how to tell if any of them are early enough!

n.b. PP Zip drives also work on RiscPC and A7000!

As much as I like CJE, it looks like I'll be getting PowerZip directly from Partis, who're almost twenty pounds cheaper. Thanks for the advice folks.

It looks like Partis's price has dropped since I last reviewed our pricing. I'll have to check how much we paid for our stock!
I suspect he's no longer doing a trade discount:-(
