The next meeting of the RISC OS User Group Of London will be:
Adapting Lua to RISC OS - presented by Gavin Wraith
Monday 21st January 2013, 7:45pm
The Blue-Eyed Maid (upstairs in the Spice Lounge restaurant) 173 Borough High Street London, SE1 1HR
Lua is a powerful, fast, lightweight, embeddable programming language. It is available for many operating systems, including of course RISC OS.
Gavin has been developing RiscLua since 2002, and the day after this meeting he will be giving a presentation to the London Lua User Group about the issues involved in porting Lua to RISC OS.
He will give us a sneak preview of that talk with RISC OS extras, and will also be looking for suggestions on how best to present RISC OS, using Lua, to an audience only familiar with the latter.
RiscLua can be downloaded from http://www.wra1th.plus.com/lua/
If you can't attend the ROUGOL meeting or just want even more Lua, details of Gavin's talk and the other speakers at the London Lua User Group on Tuesday 22nd Jan are at http://www.londonlua.org/ |

It may be of interest to some people to know that Lua is faster than BBC Basic, even though it's written in C itself, rather than assembler. It's also modern, and a joy to program in. |

The LLUG meeting ( http://www.londonlua.org/ ) on the 22nd Jan is special because Roberto Ierusalimschy will be visiting. He is one of the designers of Lua. The third edition of his book Programming in Lua (PiL) has just come out. I recommend it to anybody interested in programming, whether or not they use Lua.
Incidentally, one of the other designers of Lua, Luiz Henrique de Figueiredo, was a great fan of BBC Basic back when he was in Cambridge in 1985. |
