I have attempted this before but this time I am determined to fix it so that I can put it into storage. My Inventory is getting a bit large but that is another story... grin

I currently have a rather sad looking RPC sitting on my floor.....

I basically took it apart to rebuild it as a 2-slice machine and it hasn't worked since because either I am doing something wrong, haven't put it back together properly or something has broken. Or quite possibly a combination of all of the above.

Specs include:

Kinetic 300 CPU card (running at 233)
Risc OS 4.39 onboard
2 MB Vram
256 MB ram (yeah I know... excessive but why not)
16GB SD with RO 6.20 softloaded.
1GB SD card with misc /stuff on it
one running from motherboard, the other a UNipod.
Unipod with all 3 expansions enabled
Phillips PCCD 52X cdrom
5x86 133 PC Card (running win 98!)
VPOD Graphics card.

So as you can see it is/was pretty loaded. I put the second slice in because I wanted to add an IDE CDRW I had lying around...

Last I tried powering it up I got no VGA from either the motherboard or Vpod...

The battery is new (ish), probably flat although it has been installed less than 2 years (was replaced when I got the machine).

Progress is as follows:

Switch it on with innards disconnected. Actually get a wave synth beep so something wants to happen. But I cant see anything because my monitor is not configured.....

The Monitor says it has no signal detected but is not going to sleep so something is coming from the RPC

I have had this machine and monitor working together before, a while ago but still.

Keyboard LED's respond to num lock etc.

I have been here before lol :

Trying my previous steps as directed in an old thread I started on TIB:

http://iconbar.com/forums/viewthread.php?threadid=11492&page=1#115081

Powering on with numpad * allows me to get a beep when pressing ctrl-G which tells me I get to the *supervisor prompt

Blind typing any or all of the following as suggested in that thread seems to result in no change:

*configure monitortype 4
*configure mode 32
*configure wimpmode 32
*configure Sync 0

So either I am making mistakes in my blind typing or something else is wrong.

What to check/test next ?

Am doing this without backplane, podules and hdds. the POST seems to work and I hear the floppy grinding and a wave synth beep but I cant see anything....

The monitor and cable work fine with my R260 so they aren't the issue....

Which monitor socket are you plugging the monitor into?
Try removing VPOD and get a display working on VIDC output, then move on to vpod.

IIRC setting up the vpod did require something special, though I can't remember what.

p.s. How can you be using a vpod without a backplane?

A general rule of thumb is to strip everything back so you just have the core components, then add things back in one by one until you locate the problem.

When I had an monitor LCD issues(no vpod) with my 4.39 box I just used:-

*con. sync 0
*con. monitor. 3
ctrl-break.

A lot less typing. Note the dot after monitor.

Looking at my notes the steps prior to that where press shift on start up which bings up a menu, then press Y. This takes you to the command line, then type in the above.
