Hi there
my name is Simon I have spent the last year getting together a nice collection of Acorn Computers as I wanted to fill the void left after my last Acorn machine left in 2002 A3010
I now have two Risc PC's a 600 and a 700 still on the hunt for a A4000
there is some questions that I would like answered please
Question 1
on my Risc PC's I can't seem to set the clock past 6th jan 2013?
Question 2
does anyone know where I can get the software for my Iomega 100Mb Zip drive as I'm unable to format some of the disks I have, I have ParFS and ZipFS Lite would like the full version of that?
Question 3
My RiscPC600 has damage to the main board where the battery was so I was wanting to know how i can attach a new battery to the board and where to solder some cables to so im able to fix this problem?
Question 4
My RiscPC700 fires up for a bit when it has been off for about a week then just hangs after about 10 mins of use then I try to do a Del power up with no luck I have also tried doing the r power on with no luck then it just hangs at the supervisor mode?
hope anyone can help |

It sounds as if you might have acquired a couple of lemons.
1. Do you mean that when you run !Alarm and try to set the clock the 'bump' icon won't go past 2013? Or do you mean that it resets itself to 2013? What OS are you using?
2. I assume you mean the parallel port version. The only stuff currently available is from Partis Computing, but someone might have an old copy they'd give you as the drives usually packed up after a few years. Horrible things!
3. Well it's pretty obvious. There are 3 holes where the battery legs went. The 2 closest to the PSU (marked '+') are +Ve and the other one is -Ve. However if there's signs of damage fitting a new battery probably won't fix it and if it's had no battery (or a flat battery) for more than a year or so the RTC will probably have stalled and won't re-start.
4. Could be anything (see 1st sentence). Try removing and replacing everything (eg, RAM, connectors, etc) to clean the contacts. Also remover the motherboard and clean out underneath. Sometimes a huge amount of fluff and muck collects there. |

Hi David
Thanks for getting back to me
1. I'm Running softload of ROS4 the roms are 3.6 and it is when i try to set the time through !alarm i set it for the time now and it goes to 6th jan 2013 but it does that no matter what year i set as ive tried to go back as far as 1991 and it still sets for 6th jan
2. i hope there is someone how can help on that thanks
3. if that's the case with the RTC that will explain the problem in question 1 is there any way of getting the RTC sorted
4. i will have to do aome more investagating into the problem with the board on the 700

Where are you based? Worth seeing if there is a user group nearby where you can get help and advice, and maybe find someone with a cupboard full of spare bits  |

I'm Morley which is between Wakefield and Leeds I know that the Wakefield RISC OS Show is next month I want to be able to go but my wife works weekends and I have two kids under 6 to look after would be nice if anyone can help |

Under 12's get into the Wakefield Show for free, and I'm sure the RetroSoftware team will have a mini games arcade of BBC Micros for them to play on

Please bring them with you. Then afterwards, I can ask you to perhaps persuade my wife (via this thread) that the 2014 show wouldn't be an unsuitable trip for our son 
PS Do you happen to know if the Eureka! museum in Halifax is all it's cracked up to be?

I will have to go as there is a million and one things I need to do and ask and it will get them out of the house too
Does anyone know where I can get Ziperase from as the Argo-FS Iomega Zip drive formatter advises to use ziperase on a disk that I have
Does anyone have any idea on the regulations on licencing on acorn based software as I have alot of acquired software that are not original disks and i have the same software on damaged disks? |

I've never been to the Eureka Museum so I wouldn't know you could always go to York railway museum we went a few years ago with the lads had to drag my oldest away as he wanted to stay |

i dragged my kids to the Risc OS show i think they enjoyed it i think my youngest tied breaking a laser disk player connected to a BBC/b well he looked happy after the pictures stopped flicking through
i think it will be a defo for next year just wish there was a charity stall like that one all the time as it cost too much on eBay

Hi,
You can get batteries from apdl for a few quid, and can solder them pretty easily to the pcb.
I found it best to remove most items to access the motherboard more easily (take out CPU card(s) then unplug all the key components' lift off the slice, lift battery.
There is a great guide on the net for that. I can't find it immediately but here is a link to a more basic one...
