RISC OS Expo 2004

Posted by Andrew Duffell on 08:30, 20/6/2004 | , , , , , , , , ,

As we didn't have any of our news monkeys at this weekends show we are pilfering our information from ArcSite.
Apparently there were no major new products being sold at the show, but there was a lot of developments from the Wakefield Show.
ArtWorks was showing off the new clipping function, and Easiwriter had Artworks support. R-Comp were showing new versions of Musicman and Grapevine.
Desk were selling the MicroDigital Omega albeit without the fabled ARMTwister, and RISCOS Ltd were still showing off their unstable Omega that featured at Wakefield.
Despite the RISC OS crisis, RISCOS Ltd were still selling Adjust ROMs, and expect to be around for a few more years dragging out their dispute with Castle. Castle talked about the future of RISC OS explaining that VirtualRiscPC plays an important role in the market, and they expect that MD and STD will be using RISC OS 5 within 12-18months.

If you would like any photos from the show published then please send them to news@iconbar.com

I'd like to say it was a good show, nice atmosphere, certainly not the 'agitated' mood I expected due to recent developments... :o)

Bought grapevine2 and logs-in even faster on my dialup, SA, RO4 machine then on a modern Dell winxp box... works a dream!

Heard some very interesting noise about ROLtd...It seems something nasty is in the background and will probably hit the fan coming weeks - tip of iceberg: they'll probably be merged into Castle, including own developments/extensions like select, meaning unification at last

I have to say that if it takes a crisis like the one we are experiencing now to unify RISC OS agian, so be it.

That may be, but if it drags on for years as some people are suggesting then the market will be irrepairably damaged.
I personally hope that it can be wrapped up very quickly indeed!
Cheers!
