Marc Warne of Alpha Programming has contacted users of Cocognut about the latest release - Version 1.20. CocoGnut is a P2P program for RISC OS that runs on the Gnutella network.
Cocognut is currently a commercial program costing 16UKP, but (as we mentioned earlier this year) Marc has told us that "It is likely that sometime this week, CocoGnut will be made freely available to all". Current users, and those who donate will get "technical support and good karma".
The latest version now has Ultrapeer support, Firewall detection, Hashing, and many bug fixes as-well as various tweaks to the programs infrastructure.

This is a vast improvement to the previous version. It got that Cocognut no longer worked because of failing to connect. I'm really impressed with the speed of connection now, and the GUI adjustments such as status icons. Well done Marc! You've done yourself proud. |

*blush* Thank you, a lot of time was put into this new version and it should, in theory, be very stable now. I'm still not 100% about the free status, but we'll see... |

Should probably post this to the mailing list, but since you are here...
One useful feature would be: to be able to select an option so that search results which have P or B in the "Info" column are not displated on the search results list if you don't want them to be. I can never get P or B files, so there is no need for me to see them. :) |

Yup, that feature has already been noted and is in my (long!) to do list. Coincidently, push support is vastly improved in this version, due to a new descriptor core routine from 1.14 and a memory alignment bugfixe in 1.20. If you are able to poke a hole through your firewall (or are not firewalled), the act of a push succeeding is no longer a miracle. |

You must be keen for me to try the new version, and I seem to have been sent 6 copies!
Is it OK to just delete 5 of them from the server or was it resent for a reason? I don't really want to fetch 6MB over a modem. |

I just got this email:I'm very sorry to those who received multiple copies of the CocoGnut
1.20 upgrade. I don't really know how this happened, but I'm
guessing it's something to do with the script that sends the
e-mails timing out and being restarted. |
