Evolution

Posted by Alex Holloway on 00:00, 14/11/2001 | , ,

What is Evolution?

Evolution is Revelation 98 Plan B. That is, it's happening because Revelation ain't. The competition will go ahead - the rules are almost the same as before - but since the venue, Acorn World, has been cancelled, this is no longer a party event.

Hopefully, the lack of a RiscPC2 as a prize won't affect the quality of entries to the competition... this should be something to look forward to, since several demo groups have been holding back releases for this.

All entries will appear on a special CD Rom with the February '99 issue of Acorn User, along with a huge collection of demos from the past ten years (the "Classic Demos archive") and a Techie section with source code and mini fx.

Evolution is being organised by Paul Wheatley, author of the PD column in Acorn User, who continues the great work he's done for the scene over the last few years!

How do I enter the competition?

All submissions should be sent by 1st December 1998 to the following address:

  • Demos on floppy disc to Paul Wheatley, 26 Dale Park Rise, Cookridge, Leeds, LS16 7PP.
  • Submissions for the 'Techie' section to Paul Thomson
  • Submissions for the Classic demos archive to Stuart Lovegrove, but please check he hasn't already got them!
The rules are the same as for Revelation '98 (apart from the deadline,
of course!).

When the results be announced?

Revelation would have been judged on-the-spot by a panel; however for Evolution, it is you - the public - who will decide on the winner: there will be a voting form in the Feb '99 Acorn User and results will be announced in the next issue.

The official results will of course also be published here on Acorn Arcade, as well as reviews of all the demos, and I very much hope to be making changes to the Top Five page in a few months' time!
