Customers who have ordered an
Omega from
Microdigital can expect something interesting in the post this week.
"Please find enclosed our proforma invoice for your base Omega computer system." writes David Atkins. "We are sorry about the delays especially as we have been ready to ship since the beginning of December, anyway thank you for your support."
Despite this very welcome news, it seems that "some items may have been placed on back order, so these will be forwarded under separate documentation". It is unclear which components this statement refers to (such as larger hard drives, PCI upgrades, the PC card, or even the XScale daughter board) because although your news correspondent's order is complete, it doesn't include any of the lavish upgrades on offer.
From this letter we can draw the reasonable conclusion that Microdigital have solved their mysterious NDA issues and can finally release those Omegas from their office into the community. Good stuff.
On a related note, fluent readers of German or Babelfish might want to check out Andreas Scope's report of the Omega roadshow. You also might be interested in the spooky similarity that has been noticed between Microdigital's technical supremo, David Prosser, and Martin Handford's well loved but hard to find cartoon character, Where's Wally. Now that they appear to be able to ship, can we get some concrete specifications, particularly about the hardware accelerated things? |

Hill: Do you know what the spec is? It would be a bit odd if they wanted you to buy it without knowing what it's features were! |

Just looked on the MicroDigital website. What happened to the nice blue case as featured in the German photos? The three cases shown on the website are as inspiring as the Iyonix one. |

If you mean on the "products" pages, those cases were the original ones that were going to ship with the machines. Those photographs must have been taken 1-2 years ago now. |

I think the Standard case was designed by someone who really knows how to make attractive computers; the larger case is also pretty nice, though I don't think much of the desktop one. All of them are much much better than the Iyonix. |
